Creative Commons and Open Educational Resources (OER)

What are free, open licences? What are open, free educational resources? How does the licensing system work? Where can I find corresponding materials?

Preparation

The learners should have a basic understanding of the topic of rights of use and licences. If in doubt, the teacher should start with a short presentation on copyright and rights of use.

The PowerPoint presentation of the exercise on rights of use and copyright can be used for this purpose.

Method / Process description

Part 1 - Creative Commons

a) Creative Commons - Introduction

Learners are introduced to the basic principle of Creative Commons

b) Creative Commons - Task

The learners should define a CC licence for their own work product as an example. The worksheet serves as a support for this.

Part 2 - Open Educational Resources (OER)

The learners are introduced to the basic principle of Open Educational Resources (OER).

Afterwards, they should familiarise themselves with the range of OER materials.
